My name is Paula, Elias Ables is my 1st born grandchild. I want to tell you a little bit about this man that means so much to me. He is 25 years old and works as an electrician's apprentice. Elias has always loved baseball and is very good at it. He formed a slow-pitch softball team consisting of his friends and brother, Tyler. He is big hearted and kind and he needs our help. Here is what happened the week before Christmas. What started out as an average appendectomy has turned into something much, much more involved. His appendix had ruptured and the doctors had to take 6" of his colon and 6" of his small intestines out. Although he couldn't eat for days, and he was in the hospital for Christmas, his spirits remained good. Then an infection started on Christmas Day. The doctors went back in and saw some infection at the incision, so they cleaned it and thought they'd gotten it all. Elias continued to run a fever and his white cell count was elevating. He had another CT scan where it was discovered his re-attached organs were not healing and there was much more infection. Once again he went into surgery for 4 hours where they cleaned out the infection. Elias now has a colostomy bag which he will wear for up to 6 months and be sent home with a pic line for antibiotics and a vaccum pump for his 12" incision. Within the next 6 months he'll be opened again and his organs re- attached Again, there will be a time of healing before he can go back to work. Today is Dec 28th and he is still in the hospital.
Elias needs our help financially because he will be unable to work for 3+ months. There will be doctor bills, hospital bills, plus living expenses with no money coming in at all. He has worked so hard to get and maintain his credit and now I just don't see how he can make it. I've never asked for money before, and it's not an easy thing for me to do, but I'm doing it for a grandson that I love. Please give what you can, and even more important than money, is your prayers for his continued healing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
