Electric Wheelchair, old neighbor
I looked across the street at this four way stop today and there was this old man, white haired and with his wheelchair facing backwards- struggling to get uphill- one foot up at a time. He only has one foot, the other is prosthetic.
As I see this while driving, I realize the actual hill he has ahead of him- and pull over. I sat in my truck for one second- does that man need help? I ask myself..then got out to find him around the corner on this busy street sidewalk.
His chair wheels were stuck in a large weed protruding from the sidewalk, and he was exhausted.
I said "Is this exercise?.. or can I help?"
"You can help." He replies, looking down. His veteran hat was slouching off his head and I thought perhaps I recognized who he was. "I'm Ann", I say, while righting his chair and getting him up the steep hill.
"Do you live off Franklin?" he asked. Then says " You live next to The Lodge; Your husband helped me charge my old chair that one time."
"What happened to your electric chair?" I asked him, now choked up that he's brought up Trevor's help.. "I got hit by a car" he replies..
This man, with one leg. My senior neighbor. Got hit by a car and now struggles to get to the doctors office, uphill from the bus stop three times a week.
Please help me get him a used Jazzy wheelchair so he can know care from people. This happened today, Tuesday 10/2/2018.
