Preschool Library in Duchity, Haiti
I will be traveling to Haiti in late February to help start a small preschool library of mother-tongue books for children and a special reading and gathering space. I will be working with the Vermont Haiti Project, a nonprofit group that supports sustainable projects in Duchity, Haiti, such as a new vocational school which opened its doors in 2014. Their work is focused around building relationships with the people of Haiti through supporting local projects created by Haitians. Please look at their website for more information: http://www.vermonthaitiproject.org/
When we go to Haiti in February, I would like to bring as many books and fun learning materials such as crayons and art materials as I can fit in my suitcases! The Kreyòl language is spoken at home in Haiti and therefore it is the most accessible language for children to be learning in, but there are few Kreyòl books available in the communities there. I hope you may be able to help me with raising money to purchase books and learning materials for the children in Duchity, Haiti. All money I receive from you will be used to help the Haitian children receive books and learning materials and to set up the physical library space. I am so excited to be able to help children receive books in Haiti and to help set up a small library there. Thank you for your help with my project!
