Als Entwicklungshelferin habe ich 10 Jahre in Kumba, Kamerun, gelebt und kenne die Ejed Clinic (übersetzt "Unsere Klinik") sehr gut, die 2004 in eine Stiftung umgewandelt wurde. Von 1984 bis 1989 war ich zuständig für die Buchhaltung und zusätzlich für die Betreuung von schwangeren Frauen. Danach besuchte ich im Urlaub die Klinik regelmäßig und hielt Kontakt.
Die Ejed Medical Foundation hat 28 Betten, verfügt über einen kleinen OP-Saal, eine Entbindungsstation und behandelt überwiegend Patienten aus dem ländlichen Umkreis, die an Malaria schwer erkrankt sind und/ oder unter Durchfall leiden – die Todesursache Nr.1 in Westafrika.
Die politischen Unruhen seit 2016 im Südwesten Kameruns treffen die Ärmsten und Schwächsten am meisten. Eine Folge des Bürgerkrieges sind die finanziellen Einbußen der Kaffee- und Kakaobauern, die ihre Felder nicht mehr bestellen können und sich und ihrer Familie kaum noch eine gesundheitliche Versorgung leisten können.
Dr. med. Michael Nzume hat großzügig geholfen, in dem er Patienten teilweise unentgeltlich behandelt hat und ist jetzt finanziell in Not. Auch das Pflegepersonal arbeitet bereits seit Monaten ohne volle Bezahlung. Um die fixen Kosten wie Strom, Medikamente, Personalkosten etc. abzudecken, wird dringend Unterstützung benötigt, um die kleine Klinik halten zu können.
Die Spenden werden zuerst auf mein Konto ausgezahlt und dann an die Ejed Medical Foundation überwiesen.

As a German Volunteer I lived in Kumba, Cameroon, for 10 years and know the Ejed Clinic (meaning, "Our Clinic") very well, which was converted into a foundation in 2004. From 1984 to 1989, I was responsible for accounting and additionally for the care of pregnant women. Afterwards, I visited the clinic on vacations regularly and kept in touch.
The Ejed Medical Foundation has 28 beds, a small operating theater, a maternity ward, and mainly treats rural patients suffering from malaria or diarrhea – the no. 1 cause of death in West Africa.
The political unrest in Southwestern Cameroon since 2016 has hit the poorest and the weakest the most. One consequence of the civil war are the financial losses of the coffee and cocoa farmers who can no longer cultivate their fields and can hardly afford any health care for themselves or their families.
Dr. Michael Nzume has generously helped in treating patients partially free of charge and is now financially in need. The nursing staff has been working for months without full payment. To cover the fixed costs such as electricity, medicines, personnel costs, support is urgently needed to keep the small clinic.
The donations will first be transferred to my bank account and then send to the Ejed Medical Foundation.
