Help Maria and her son

$1,695 of $12,000 goal

My name is Valeriy Ivanov. I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia. My niece Maria is only 26 years old. In November 2013 Maria was diagnosed with femoral head necrosis. Since then she has been on very rare antibiotics. The diagnosis will result in her leg being amputated unless she has surgery to replace her hip in October 2014. She has a 5 year-old son named Sergiy and doesn't have the support of a husband. The long treatment in the hospital has drained her parents’ savings. Three of them are living in a single room they rent in Kiev. Viktoria, Maria's older sister, took in little Sergiy to raise with her other two children. Due to the current civil war in the Ukraine Maria's parents have been denied a bank loan for the surgery. Without health insurance in the Ukraine they really need your help. Unfortunately many people are currently in need but are unable to receive the help they deserve.
For this reason Maria and her family began looking for help beyond their country's borders. Even a little financial help will be appreciated. If you cannot help with money, please relay this message to someone who will be able to contribute towards this surgery. Every dollar will be used for treatment, and should there be funds left over, it will be donated to the children's hospital in Kiev.

Dear friends and friends of my friends and those who made generously donations to help Maria. Here is the latest news from Ukraine about Maria’s medical condition. At the moment, Maria is out of antibiotics, finally after so many months! Her condition has improved significantly and she became more active and moves with crunches more easily and father distances. Doctors believe in successful ending and that she will be able to walk after surgery within few weeks.
I apologize to everyone for not updating this page for so long, but indeed there was nothing much to tell until today.
Once again, accept gratitude from Maria and her family and myself for your kind support. We really appreciate it from deep of our hearts! I am not giving up this page until the surgery is done and promise to inform everyone about the outcomes whatever they are.
Let’s pray and hope for the better for everyone!
Sincere,
Valeriy Ivanov

Dear friends,
Doctors still hesitate of starting surgery and send Maria for further series of laboratory tests. However, her condition is much much better than before and we still hope the surgery to be performed soon. As soon as I have details I will update this page so everyone could know the outcomes. Thank you very much again for your support!
Sincere,
Valeriy Ivanov

Dear perish members, friends:

Here is a quick update; Maria’s last few labs were very successful, she will have one more though this Thursday. The following Monday doctors should schedule surgery day if Thursday’s lab is good as well.

To give accountability to the raised funds, I would like to inform everyone that we have $1,655 on www.gofundme.com account and another $1,200 in cash collected by perish members, myself, Grammar high school students, Dalhousie professors and students of Russian department, my colleagues, and people who are friends of my friends.

Right now I am arranging a cost effective bank transfer of the collected funds to Ukraine. If anyone has questions, don't hesitate to contact me. Thank you one more time for helping Maria!

Sincere,
Valeriy Ivanov

Hi everyone!
Here is a little update about Maria’s campaign. There will be another lab on third of October 2014. Maria’s condition has improved significantly compared to what it was few months ago. There is a great hope that the lab results will show that it is safe to perform the surgery.

Meanwhile, I am still working on getting more people involved. My plan includes trying with QE2 foundation and possibly finding doctors from Dalhousie University who would agree to perform surgery here in Canada.

I would like to express my special gratitude to Maria Koutovenko, who put a lot of efforts and her time to helping me with fundraising and keeping my morale high. Thank you Maria!

Please, also continue spreading the message about this campaign so we could be closer to success. There have been 330 visits so far to the website. Thank you once more to everyone who decide to help Maria.

Sincere,
Valeriy Ivanov
