Emily Bernhardt is a 10 year old girl who is sweet, passionate, and kind hearted. To know her is to love her. She is the daughter of Bernie and Rachel Bernhardt, sister to Madison and Thomas, Grandparents of Fred and Nancy Taylor - Schmitt, Esther Berndhardt, and Great granddaughter of Pat Taylor. Emily
has always been a caring, healthy, energetic, and an active child. She loves basketball, swimming, soccer, friends, and family. This last July, Emily was diagnosed with a double ear infection and strep throat. She was treated with an antibiotic, but her symptoms worsened over time. She became terribly weak, experienced a loss of vision, had the inability to walk, extremely fatigued, just to name a few....after seven hospital visits around the state and many different doctors, they still had no answers and were left feeling hopeless. Things began to get worse, Emily could no longer walk on her own, she was unable to brush her teeth, eat on her own, or move around independently. When they began to lose hope, her parents decided to take Emily to the Cleveland Clinic. With around the clock care, fifteen doctors later, Emily was finally diagnosed with Post Infection Paralysis. The infection began this summer; attacking her muscles and nervous system. They will be at the Cleveland clinic and various rehabilitation centers over the next 3-4 months. Her mother Rachel will be staying with her. Emilys father, siblings, and grandparents will be traveling to Cleveland on the weekends. With medical bills, parking, travel, and much more the Bernhardt's need our financial and emotional support. They are active members of our community and need our help.
