Qualifying for Youth Olympic Games
Donation protected
My name is Parker Reid and I am a 15 year old Canadian Bobsleigh Pilot from the lower mainland of British Columbia. I regularly train at the Whistler Sliding Centre and am on the Canadian Monobob Team trying to qualify to participate in the 2016 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Lillehammer, Norway, in February, 2016. Monobob is a one man bobsled and this is a new discipline/sport that is being introduced at YOG next year. Because this is a new sport, there is no funding available, leaving athletes and their families to pay all costs associated with travel, training, coaching and competition. I have just competed in the first 2 of 7 races in the Omega Monobob YOG Qualification race series and I finished 6th in both races (that's a really good result). The next step in my journey is to travel to Innsbruck, Austria at the end of this month (November, 2015) to train and compete in the next series of races - after that training and racing continues in Norway in December and then St. Moriz, Switzerland in January, 2016. I am hoping to raise as much money as possible through donations to help my parents pay all the costs associated with me realizing my goal - to wear the Maple Leaf representing Canada at YOG. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am going to do everything in my power to make the most of it and to make my family, coaches and friends proud. I will be extremely greatful for all support - big or small
