Please take the time to read about Nathan Helms. In a matter of a week not only Nathan's life, but his family's lives have forever been changed.
On May 8, 2018, Nathan was scheduled for a routine cleaning with his family dentist. During his visit, the dentist found what he thought to be an abscess tooth and so was referred out to a local oral surgeon for further consultation. That following day he met with the oral surgeon in which it was immediately confirmed not to be what the dentist had originally presumed it to be. A biopsy was conducted during his visit and in one week's time, the results confirmed an extremely rare type of cancer known as ACC (Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma).
Nathan has worked as a welder for the past 14 years in Tracy, California and has consistently been the sole provider for his loving wife and two wonderful daughters, ages 10 and 12. And although he has recently been diagnosed with cancer, his biggest concern still remains the security and well-being of his family. Asking for help or financial assistance has always been a foreign concept to Nathan. He has taken much pride in being the rock that others depend on but now realizes that this new chapter of his life is much bigger than he can carry alone. And so we are asking for your help today.
With this new diagnosis there will be a long road ahead of tests and treatment. Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma is an extremely rare type of cancer, so rare, there are currently only a few doctors familiar in treating this diagnosis.
Nathan has been referred out to a specialist in UCLA, located six hours away from his hometown. With upcoming appointments and time away from work, the family will be incurring additional expenses through this treatment process. With the donations that are raised through this account it will help offset some of those, relieving some of the financial burden and stress, to better help Nathan and his family get through this difficult and uncertain time together.
