Eco-Educational project in Peru

Welcome to our innovative educational-ecological project, "El Huerto de Faustroll", here in Arequipa, Peru:)
Sadly our city is facing a huge garbage problem, there is no collection system for seperating wastages and people are not used to recycle. Morerover there are still problems of social exclusion and poverty in the suburbs of the city. Also, the public school system is focused mainly on excellency performance through means of mainstream pedagogical methods which undermine creativity and interactional learning.
So, we have set several main goals to our proyect " Faustroll":
1. To spread green thinking in the upcoming generation:
→ organizing events with focus on recycling, urban gardening, renewable energies
→ realizing workshops that teach how to apply these knowledges in daily life
2. To create a cultural-educative center for local children that promotes creativity/alternative learning:
→ artistic workshops (dance, music, drawing, handcraft, etc);
→ language classes based on integrated and experimental pedagogical approaches;
→ a community center to enforce social bonds and mutual support between families
→ alternative cine-projections
3. To embody a sustainable, autosufficient and conscious way of living daily life:
→ relying on permaculture, bioconstruction, organic agriculture, beekeeping, hand craft and recycling,
→ leaning on renewable energies such as solar panels/cookers, wind and mechanical energies
→ encouraging bicycles usage in daily life
As you can see in the video, so far we have already realized a lot, both in constructing and organzing educational events but at this point we need help to bring the project to functioning level. In particular we need to buy:
- materials for renewable engergies such as a solar panel kit, a wind energy kit (we do already have a bicycle creating electricity through pedalling :) )
- construction tools (wood/glass cutter, drill, welding machine) to work recycled materials more effectively and finish construction faster
- construcion materials such as tiles and roof structures for protecing mud/cob constructions, wood, clay, lime, paint, nails …
- classroom and workshop materials like a projector, a blackboard, an audio-system and a printer.
If we want to give proof that a more sustainable way of living is not only possible but even beneficial from all points of view and teach how everyone can practice it themselves, this could mean a great change for the present and the future generation here in Peru as well as for 'Pachamama', Mother Earth.
