Educating Youth & Empowering Women
Donation protected
As I previously stated on my Facebook from September 10-October 1st I will be volunteering in Gulu, Uganda with a truly inspiring organization, The Hope Center Uganda (HCU). Every day after school classes are given to young students aged 4-16 ranging from performance and visual arts to basic computer training to sexual health education. These children are in a fun, nurturing and educational environment where they are not only learning valuable information and life skills, but improving their English.
While there I will be teaching a class called Girl Power. Teenage pregnancy is an overwhelming issue in Sub-Saharan Africa that results in large drop out rates feeding into this never ending cycle of poverty. Lack of education and lack of necessary products are a direct cause. Through education and the availability of products like sanitary pads teenage girls are now being given a chance their mothers never were.
HCU not only works with children but plays a huge role in the local community by providing small business loans to women. Currently over 300+ local women are receiving these micro finance loans for their businesses, and as a direct result are being able to drastically change their families lives. In summary this organization does so much good and I would like to help them do more. Any donation you are willing to make, no matter how small (I will be happy to see even just a penny donated) can help and is beyond generous.
Thanks for taking the time to read all of this and for any contribution you might give!
You can check out what a unbelievable organization this is for yourself!
