Have you heard of the EDGAR INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND project at Edgar Elementary School? We are hoping that you can help to support this great project for our students!
Our vision is for all students, including those with physical disabilities, to be able to play and have fun on our playground equipment. Unfortunately, recess on the playground at Edgar is not what we envisioned it to be because the playground equipment is 33 years old. Our current playground equipment is outdated and it is not handicapped accessible and all children are not able to access or use our equipment. Additionally, a review of the current equipment indicated that it didn’t meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards nor did it have some of the safety improvements found in newer equipment.
With this in mind, a group of staff members have launched an initiative called the EDGAR INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND project with the intention of raising money to purchase new equipment to make our playground an inclusive playground where ALL children can play and have fun.
What makes the EDGAR INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND project inclusive and handicapped accessible is not only the types of equipment and modular structures that were chosen, but the surface as well. We believe that we need a playbound poured-in-place surface to replace the wood chips to truly make the handicapped accessible playground equipment accessible.
Our timeline is to raise funds for our playground are from November 1, 2018-June 1, 2019. The total price of the EDGAR INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND is $378,755. The inclusive equipment is $156,503 and the playbound poured-in-place surface is $178,752 and assembly/installation/freight is $43,520 for a grand total of $378,775. KIDS AROUND THE WORLD will be taking down our old equipment, refurbishing it and donating it to another country at no expense to us.
