Post-Kidney Transplant Expenses
The purpose of this request is to help with the enormous cost of post-kidney transplant medications, mainly the anti-rejection medications for my dad's new kidney. When he was discharged from the hospital the pharmacy sent him home with $900 worth of medications, which is not covered by his health insurance. That amount of pills should last about a month or so. Obviously he was not made aware of the cost prior to transplant, otherwise I would have started this campaign much earlier. The anti-rejection pills will be taken everyday for the rest of his life. He needs to take care of his new kidney, and therefore, any help is appreciated.
My dad is not the type of person who reaches out for help as he is a private person and this is difficult for him to ask, but sometimes we all need help. Any funds donated will be used specifically for his post kidney transplant.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
Here is his story as posted on social media:
Dear Family and Friends,
I'm writing to you to let you know of my current health issue. I've had diabetes for 25 years and have maintained it very well with diet, lifestyle changes, and medication. Although I've taken care of my health I have now found myself in need of a kidney. I am at Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease and my kidney's are getting worse. I am not on dialysis yet, but it will soon be unavoidable without a kidney transplant. As you can imagine, I'm not looking forward to that as it changes your lifestyle in in a way that it takes 3 days a week and 3-4hrs each day at the dialysis center. This is the only health issue I've ever had. I have just been added on to the list for a kidney transplant and as grateful as I am for this, the wait time for a kidney match could possibly take years.
I am retired but still keep very busy with yard work, as well as doing the same for the neighbors in my community, and I enjoy road trips to visit family. I am someone who devotes my life to helping make a difference to my family and friends.
I would rather receive a live donor for a kidney. Live donor kidneys have a better chance of survival than a deceased donor. I hope you will consider being tested to be a donor for me. I know this is a tremendous request, and if you can help please do, or if you know someone who might please forward this on. If you'd like more information please don't hesitate to send a message to this page and my daughter Kim will get back to you immediately.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
My dad is still limited on doing physical activity so my sisters, mom, and my daughter helped with his yard work yesterday.
A BIG thank you to those who call, text, message him to check in. It means a lot.
