Andy Winkler was a man I never actually met, but I heard loads of great stories about. His daughter Jessie is one of my favorite people in the whole wide world and immediately after hearing she'd lost him, I was sympathetically grieving with her. And when hearing about the cost of burying her dear not-so-old dad, I was REALLY grieving with her. It's going to cost her family 5 figures to commemorate him and with a lack of life insurance and lost income from his debilitating stroke, I know it's not going to be easy to handle.
Andy (aka "The Treeman") was a funny guy who took no bull and was super stubborn, a quality that I know can be found in all of his kids. Word is that he was also quick to help those in need and while he might have talked a bit of good-spirited shit before he helped, he always gave everyone the assistance they needed. What was his was also yours and while no one is perfect, that's a quality that we should all celebrate when we find it in ourselves or others.
There will be many or few of you whose impulse is to buy flowers or a condolence card to help comfort the Winkler family. And while I know those gestures would be much appreciated, donating the dollars you would spend on those things to Andy's memorial instead would be a much more fruitful action. Every bit of this GoFundMe will go to covering Andy's final expenses so whether you share $1 with him or $100, your kindness will be appreciated... and recorded in the book of good deeds that gets added to the scales when you reach the afterlife.
