Earnest Rescue & Recovery Fund

Donation protected
We adopted Earnest from a close friend who rescued him from being killed in a shelter due to his extreme fear of people. He came from a home where he was kept in a pen outside in the back yard and severely neglected and almost starved to death. Luckily the owners surrendered him to a shelter where my dear friend rescued him & fostered him into much beter health before we adopted him in March of 2017. From the day we brought him home my biggest fear was that if he ever got loose he would be GONE! On Friday January 26th, 2018 my worst nightmare came true and just like that he got loose from his collar/leash and was GONE! He ran from Doggie Village of Apex, through the parking lot of Hope Community Church, down the side of E. Williams Street when he crossed the road into traffic running into the woods between Miramonte and Pemberley neighborhoods.  We lost sight of him there around 1:30 pm. Frantically we walked and drove the area in hopes to find him but being scared of all humans still and life in general we did not find him. We started spreading the news and got a phone call at 5:45 that he was seen trying to cross back over towards Hope Church and was clipped by a car and he ran back into the woods between the neighborhoods. We drove down there with our family lab Rivers in hopes to recover him, but we lost daylight so we had about 10-15 residents all pull together with flashlights searching the woods friday night with no luck. Saturday morning we all pulled together as a community and began searching for him in daylight with treats, people came out with leashes and their dogs helping to find him.  We heard from a resident in Miramonte that he was seen near the tennis courts in Miramonte so we knew he was at least not injured frombeing clipped by the car. Later that afternoon a resident found him sleeping in the woods between the neighborhoods and he fled in my direction, then ran from me from afar towards other searching for him and then ran into the street into traffic (not getting hit thankfully) into the woods behind Hope Church. We got our hands on a humane trap from the Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue which we put out on Saturday night behind the Church, but sadly he did not find the trap before the 2 days of pouring rain so we figured he found shelter to stay dry and didn't see him again until Monday night when he was last seen running down E.Williams Street towards the intersection of Smithfield Rd &  Sunset Lake Rd. He was not seen crossing the road so we assume that he returned to the woods in the vacinity of Doggie Village Apex  & Hope Church in Apex once again. We moved his trap a little in hopes to now catch him since the rain has gone and he's probably out frantically looking for food. As of today, January 31st, he has not made his way to the trap and we have had no reports of sightings. Catching this poor terrified rescue pup is proving to be difficult due to his extreme fear of people and if anyone approaches him he will run.  I can't even begin to describe the level of love we have developed for Earnest welcoming him into our home and doing all we can to help him lose his fears from his previous home, but it takes a lot of time and we have not reached that point with him before he got loose. We love our pets and think of them as family and we are willing to do whatever it takes to bring him home safely. It is never in my nature to ask for money, but the expenses for his recovery and the vet bills that will follow to care for whatever injuries he may have from being loose are beyond unexpected so we have decided to reach out to the community who has already thrown their time and hearts into helping us find him. Residents of Apex/ HS have helped check the trap, kept their eyes peeled for him while driving or walking the streets nearby, calling and texting to notify us if they sight him, put out food as needed, shared posts on FB, made phone calls to help spread the word, etc. My heart is warmed by the kindness of this Village it will take to help us bring him home. We ask once more that if you are willing to make even the smallest of donations to help with the rescue expenses and post-rescue recovery vet  bills.  Everyone is praying daily for Earnest & I have all the faith in the world that he will make it home, but  he's not making it easy thats for certain. Once he is caught and comes home safely, if any of the money raised is not needed for his direct care we will be donating the remaining money to the Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue due to their kindness in not just loaning us the trap, but coming out to help teach us how to set the trap, what to do if he is caught, and being on standby pretty much 24/7 for any assistance we might need. Their rescue raises money and puts it towards amazing causes and even if our expenses exceed $500, which is very easily could, I will still plan to make a donation to their Rescue in honor of Earnest.  Most recently their board has approved a large sum of their donations to purchase animal ressusitation devices for more fire departments individually instead of only have one per city. These devices are essential to have at each fire station to save out pets in emergency situations whether a car wreck or a house fire.
I can't thank our comminuty as a whole enough for all of their ongoing support, but the rescue efforts will be ongoing until he comes home and anything you can spare will be a blessing and greatly appreciated.
