Eagles Soar to Odyssey WORLDS

We are going to Odyssey of the Mind WORLDS! What does that mean? Well, these 6 amazing kids from Emerick Elementary have put together a solution to the Odyssey problem "Classics: It's Time, Omer" for the 2017 Odyssey competition. They won 1st place at the Region 14 competition. They won 2nd place at the Virginia state competition, and now they get to proudly represent VIRGINIA against THE WORLD!!

But lets take a few steps back to explain. Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Over 800 teams from around the world will compete in the 38th Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in Lansing, Michigan at Michigan State University campus. The competition emphasizes creativity and teamwork and has grown into the largest international creative problem-solving competition worldwide.

So, why GoFundMe? We need help with expenses for transportations, room and board for this 5-day competition. Our state competition where we won the bid for Worlds was just on April 1st, and the WORLD competition is May 24-28th. So, we don't have much time to raise the money.

Why is this so important? I love this program so much that I coordinate at Emerick and coach 2 teams. But way before I got involved in the program here in Virginia,
I, myself, went to WORLDS when I was in Jr High. It was such an amazing experience, and I want these kids, who have worked so hard all school year long, to experience it, too--especially my daughter. My mom was my coach back then...and now I have a chance share this wonderful memory with MY daughter.

We would really appreciate any contributions made to our trip. These young, bright kids are pushing the limits of how we see the world and could be the next scientists, inventors, entreprenuers, and leaders of our country.
