Kari's Spine Needs Help!

Donation protected
Kari Moore is a dear friend to many—not only to those who have a long history with her, but also to those who have had the pleasure of her competent and caring nursing skills. I am certain that I speak for all who know her, that Kari is the kindest, most caring person, who could not be better suited to the medical field. We friends and family hope to raise the funds to assist her in getting back to the work she loves.

Kari has chosen difficult areas of practice: high-risk, low-income patients, hospice and chronic care management, as well as care for WWII veterans. In 2011, this physically stressful career caused a debilitating problem: Kari was diagnosed with diffuse spinal disease. Because of this disabling disease, she has lost all income, exhausted her savings, but most importantly, she has become unable to practice the work she considers inherent to who she is, and at which she is very good.

In 2012 she underwent two spinal fusions, which alleviated part of the problem, but further imaging showed progressive disease and damage in the thoracic spine. Unfortunately, the thoracic spine is not surgically reparable, and each of the many MRI’s in the last five years has shown more damage and disease.

The very field in which she practiced so selflessly ultimately let Kari down by providing only minimal, but very much-needed medical attention. Kari’s insurance coverage has not kept pace with the increased damage to her spine. Physically unable to work, Kari has struggled to find solutions that will make for a pain-free, and fulfilling life.

Here’s the exciting news: initial tests of an intrathecal pain pump have proven to relieve her chronic pain—relief which will enable her to return to nursing. Medicare covers 80% of the cost for this surgical procedure, leaving Kari responsible for the rest. She has no secondary insurance coverage, and will need to pay for the remaining $5,000, which is where we come in!

Let’s make this happen! No amount is too small, and any contribution is deeply appreciated. Thank you, all!
