Kevin's Fight

Donation protected
This is Kevin . We are sharing his story in hopes of raising money to help with the medical bills and expenses that are rapidly piling up, even with health insurance.
Kevin is a hard working 42 year old father of 2 teenage boys. On November 22, 2016 Kevin had a routine scope done on his throat. This day has changed his life forever. Kevin's doctor came out and told us that she had found a tumor and immediate sent him for blood work and a CT scan. The next day the doctor called and confirmed that Kevin had Esophageal / GI cancer. They began doing a ton of tests and scans on him then developed a treatment plan for him. Kevin had to leave his job on December 31,2016 and go on short term disability. On January 3,2017 Kevin began the first part of his battle with chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Kevin went for treatments 5 days a week for 6 weeks, on February 10th Kevin had his last treatment. Kevin quickly declined after his treatments ended. He became unable to eat and drink, vomiting up anything he was able to get down. This caused him to rapidly lose weight and become very weak. Even after countless trips in for IV hydration and IV nausea meds nothing helped. On February 22, 2017 he had a J- tube surgically(feeding tube) placed in his small intestine to give him vital nourishment he needed. Today 4 weeks after the feeding tube placement we met with the head surgeon on his case and he has determined that Kevin needs 4 more weeks to continue gaining back his strength and healing before starting the next part of his battle. Kevin will be having a massive resection done, where his GI surgeon will remove the top quadrant of his stomach and disconnect it. Then his thoracic surgeons will go in and remove the lower part of his esophagus and the lymph nodes in his chest. Then together they will work on pulling his stomach up in to his chest cavity to sew it back together with his esophagus. This is a very long surgery and is very strenuous on the body. This will be the hardest part of the battle, Kevin will be hospitalized for a minimum of 8-14 days and will require weeks of therapy. His tentative surgical date is April 25,2017 at the Alfond Harold cancer center in Augusta, Maine. Thank you, for taking the time to read Kevin's story and for your help. I will continue to up date you on kevin's Fight.
