Binta Manneh, raped at 15.

Binta Manneh recently revealed in a very disturbing testimony at the TRRC how she was raped by one of our security officers in The Gambia. She was only 15 years at the time and to date she has been reeling with the trauma with absolutely no help or support from anyone. Her father forced her into an unwanted marriage while in this difficult situation and the marriage broke up later due to her brother’s intervention. 

Some of the effects of rape in our society, as evident in her testimony include early and/or unwanted marriage, stigmatisation and school dropout. 

We are appealing to all Gambians and friends of The Gambia to donate to Binta to enable her get the medical and psychological support she needs. Every little will go a long way in changing her life back to normal.
