Anyone who knows Laurey Walker knows how much she LOVES her dauchsands ❤️ Dressing them up, taking countless photos, doggie play dates and birthdays and even travels with them. (Who didn’t fall in love with Sebastian in the stroller!)

But she needs our help after a tragic turn of events and the need for some expensive vet bills and surgery for her “baby man”... here is her story....
“On March 9 I woke up & Sebastian was having trouble walking and clearly in pain, but still walking. I took him to the emergency vet and the X-ray showed sign of calcification between 3 discs in his back, IVDD- Intervertebral Disc Disease.
Dachshunds are prone to this and I tried my best to lessen the risk by watching his weight, having little steps to use for the furniture, using a harness as opposed to a collar, etc. But now I’m being told it’s genetic and there was nothing I could have done to totally prevent it. Which sucks.
For the past 3 weeks he’s been on 24/7 crate rest- his back legs don’t work and he’s incontinent. But he’s still Sebastian, his spirit is still there. I was hoping with the steroids, inflammatories and pain meds he’d bounce back with this conservative approach but so far, nothing.
At his follow up appointment I asked about acupuncture and laser therapy bc I’ve read fantastic things and was referred to a holistic vet who’s certified in those practices. We saw her today and she sat and talked to me for an hour. She explained that she can do those things but ultimately, if he doesn’t have surgery, they’re a “band aid”. She highly recommended that we go the surgery route to remove the calcification between those discs and give him the best chance at walking again, pain free. Bc he’s only 4 However it’s not a guarantee. But he still has deep pain response so that’s a positive.
I called the place in Rockville MD she recommended and was quoted $2170 for the consult and MRI. And then the surgery would be an additional $5500-7700.”
