The Long of It

When I was born, I was very premature and had smaller kidneys than normal. As I aged, the doctors said I would be okay and sent me on my way to live life. When I reached the age of 16, I went into kidney failure for the very first time. While this wasn't horrible and I managed to get out of it with a kind donation from my older brother, I wasn't out of it yet.

In college, I managed a full-time load while trying to pay for an apartment that was well out of my funding gap. My roommate was unable to fund this apartment as well and that left me incredibly stressed and my immune system depleted.

While it's suspected that I went into kidney rejection because of stress, Kansas University Hospital did not do any research into why my transplanted kidney rejected. Now, it could be a combination of physician negligence, stress, infection, and possible medication-induced kidney failure. If you want the long version of that story, please feel free to contact me.

I have since then been accepted to the transplant program and am currently waiting for the call while on dialysis for 12 hours a week. If you have questions about how dialysis works, how kidney transplant works, etc, please let me know!

The Short of It

The combination of being a full-time college student and having kidney failure (which means dialysis treatments) means I cannot obtain a job to pay for rent, bills, or food. While I get assistance where I can to pay for those, the additional help is always appreciated.

On top of that, after my kidney transplant, I will need to pay for hotel, food, and health care for a week or more in Kansas City as well as gas money to get to weekly, if not twice-weekly appointments.

What your money goes toward...

-Living expenses (rent, bills, medical supplies, medication co-pays, etc.)
-Gas for doctor's appointments in Kansas City, MO (We drive from Wichita, KS or Manhattan, KS depending on where I am at the time)
-Hotel for my family whilst I'm in the hospital
-Food for my family whilst I'm in the hospital
-My hotel stay for 2-3 weeks after transplant discharge; this includes my food and toiletry expenses as well.
-Gas for weekly or even twice-weekly doctor visits for a couple months to a year after transplant.
-Living expenses for after transplant as well.

What else could I do?

-Share my GoFundMe!! It's easy and quick and it gets the word out.
-Make art or something that I can put in my hotel room or my hospital room and make it more comfortable than it usually would.
-Get tested for a transplant-- while it sounds difficult and terrible, if you are brave and caring and wonderful, I will give you the information on how to do this. I know how the transplant process works and I would be more than willing to tell you about it.
-When I get my Amazon Wishlist set up, buy something from it and send it to me! That's less I need to buy in my suitcase for when I finally get the call.
