Dear Friends, Relatives, and UST CAFA Friends,
We are putting together this Go Fund Me page to help a friend who means a lot to us -- Len Tomelden. Her husband, Dan Tomelden, is suffering from ALS, and in recent weeks, his health turned for the worse which ended up in an unexpected hospitalization. Without medical insurance, the Tomeldens are hard pressed to find a way to pay Dan's mounting medical bill. With our encouragement, Len has agreed to allow us bring this matter to you, our UST friends, to ask for your financial help. Please read her letter below. We believe there is strength in numbers -- in the spirit of a "bayanihan" where the community gets together to help its own -- will you join us?
The money raised from this page will help pay for Dan's unexpected hospitalizations and continuing home care. Len has already taken out a loan to pay for some of the expenses, but it is still short of the final amount. More costs are added each day for Dan's care and other medical needs. We will update this site as we get more information.

Dear friends, colleagues and classmates,
You may have been made aware of ALS ( Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) thru the videos being posted by celebrities and non- celebrities, undertaking the ALS Ice-bucket Challenge. It is for a good cause, to raise funds for research of the cause and cure of the disease. As of date there is no known medical cure . Sadly, This is the fate that befell my husband, Dante C. Tomelden. He is diagnosed with ALS, a neuro degenerative disease which has affected his spinal column and brain cells, and which is progressing very fast . He is confined in the hospital for almost a month now, with tubes in his trachea to aid his breathing and in his stomach for his feeding. We have yet to see if he could still stand or even sit in his condition now. Aside from the physical pain and discomfort, he is emotionally bereft, as he could not anymore work nor be on his own. It is depressing to be in his condition now. We are comforted with all the prayers said for his healing, but still we have other problems to face. I knock on the door of your kindheartedness and benevolence to seek support and assistance. The mounting hospital and medical and other incidental expenses has forced me to seek financial help. Since I have retired from work, I could not anymore qualify to avail or enroll in any medical health care, thus we have to shoulder all the medical expenses. My family and I will forever be grateful for whatever assistance you may offer.
