Karen's medical fund

Hello Everyone! Thanks so much for your kind thoughts and prayers, as most of you know it has been a difficult year for Karen. Karen was first diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2005. She fought the good fight and between the chemo and a mastectomy we all thought she was cancer free. It turns out the cancer was just hiding. In the fall of 2015, Karen was not feeling well - she had a cough and went to the doctor, he thought she had a lung infection which was later diagnosed as walking pneumonia. She had to endure months of the exausting illness before the fourth antibiotic treatment finally got her back on her feet. At that point her pulmonary doctor suggested she get a few more tests because something was not right.  Unfortunately, the reason for the lung infection turned out to be a mass in the center of her left lung.
Although in the lung, her offical diagnosis is Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. Karen has been on a pill form of chemo for the past 3 weeks, and she'll have blood work done every two weeks.  In the next few weeks she will have her PET Scan - They'll use sugar/dye to show if the cancer has moved beyond the lung and if so, where it may be hiding. This will also help determine the best type of treatment.
For all this work Karen will need some help. Due to the changes to the insurance system, deductables have gone through the roof. Karen is able to get a better plan for 2017, lowering her deductable to $3000.00 at the expense of increasing her monthly premium, but all the work done so far has had to come right out of her pocket. She is working, and with that money and the money she gets from Glen she is able to keep the house for her and Alex and pay most of the bills, but she's at a break-even point at best. The stress of not knowing how she will be able to come up with the money for her treatment adds to the evil cancer is causing in her life!
This is where we can come together to provide Karen much needed support. We'd like to help Karen and Alex get through this with a bit less stress and allow her to concentrate on getting better rather than worrying about how to pay for her care.
