Laurens Humane Adoption Center
Please help us!
The Laurens County Humane Society is a registered 501c3 non-profit organization run completely by volunteers. After many years of fundraising and hard work, we are excited to announce the construction of the county's first and only no-kill adoption center!! We will be breaking ground in the next 4-6 weeks and our facility will house both dogs and cats.
Some unanticipated expenses at the construction site (e.g. the need to install a pump station to connect to the local sewer line) have put us over budget and we really need your help.
If you are able to contribute to our shelter fund, 100% of your donation will go towards the construction of our facility.
Thank you for helping to save the animals of Laurens County!

This photo was taken at Laurens County Animal Control last week. They seized 33 dogs from one home and 116 from another. Animal control is a "high-kill" facility operated by the local government and is the only place for lost/stray/abandoned dogs to go in Laurens County (there is nowhere for cats....nowhere). You can see why the Laurens County Humane Society is so desperate to build our no-kill adoption center.
We keep a waiting list of canines and felines, as the supply far outweighs the demands. Our monthly spay/neuter agreement with Animal Allies in Spartanburg, SC continues to run smoothly in hopes of reducing the amount of unwanted litters.
Please keep an eye on our facebook page and our adoptable pets on Petfinder. Come visit us when you are looking for a new loyal companion!
Our physical address is 793 Poplar St., Clinton, SC 29325 and our mailing address is PO Box 1600, Clinton, SC 29325. Our phone number is 864-833-9060. Our hours vary depending on availability of staff and volunteers.
Things have been going fantastically at the construction site! I have included 3 pictures on this post (the max allowed) but you can see even more from as recently as yesterday if you check out our Facebook page! The rain has held been a problem for the past week or so, but they are just about done with the cement block and the roof trusses are being delivered next week! Having an actual roof is going to be surreal! Get ready for some SUPER excited posts from me!
We have been doing well with our "Bricks for Best Friends" fundraising campaign and I can't wait to see the finished product in a few months. It is going to be absolutely fantastic! If you haven't ordered one yet, visit our webpage to find the link to the order site.
Money is always a problem and we struggle each day with making rough choices as to what we can afford to do without in our facility, but we remain positive and inspired every day thanks to supporters like you!
We have had a huge month in the media - We have been on the front page of the newspaper, the topic of a very complimentary editorial, and in today's weekly paper we were named #8 of the top 10 news stories for all of Laurens County in 2014! Not bad for a group of just NINE volunteers, huh?
We have come so far this year and we are humbled by the support that we have received from animal lovers near and far. This is still very much a "leap of faith" for us that will continue to rely on donations to support us in outfitting and operating our facility once it is complete, but it's a leap we had to take.
I'm proud to be able to serve with 8 wonderful ladies that make up our Board of Directors. We are all volunteers and most of us also maintain full-time careers and have families to care for, yet somehow we have managed to change the course of history in Laurens County. Thanks for your continued support and for loving animals as much as we do.
Wishing you a happy & healthy 2015!

It is hard to believe that just a couple of months ago, we couldn't even walk on this plot of land. Look at it now!! We are right on schedule and the plumbing was completed yesterday! Watching this dream becoming a reality is so incredibly exciting but also stressful.
Each time we meet with our amazing general contractor, Steve, we are having to make very difficult choices based on our limited funds. This week the decision was how many drains we could afford to have put in and if we can find a second-hand three-station sink and maybe a used large pre-fabricated tub/shower wall to wash the dogs in. There is absolutely no fluff here folks. We will have no flooring aside from sealed cement throughout and as of right now we have no cabinetry and no furniture. We are building the shell of what we need with every cent that we have raised as volunteers and we are maintaining faith that the community will step forward and help us to make this facility whole.
If you are able to help with a monetary donation, every single dollar makes a difference. Your donation translates directly into us being able to call Steve and let him know that we can afford a certain window or to make a sink run both hot and cold.
If you or your company have materials or services that you might be able to donate or provide at reduced cost, please contact us any time at email@example.com and we would be so proud to list you as our partner in this great project. Remember that we are a registered 501 C3 and all donations are tax deductible.
Thank you so much for all of your kind words and support. It really means the world to us and keeps us going strong!
Yes, you heard right! We had our official groundbreaking yesterday and within the next 6 months, Laurens County will have its first ever NO-KILL ADOPTION CENTER!!!
We were so thankful to have all of the local media there to share in our celebration and we'd also like to send a huge "thank you" to Meg Franklin (Franklin Pharmaceutical Consulting) for coming out to be our personal photographer! It was an absolutely beautiful afternoon with some of the greatest people that I know!
PLEASE continue to share our fundraising page with your friends, family, and coworkers. While we are incredibly proud and excited to be able to build this facility, we will be spending almost all of the money that we have on construction.
Over the next several months we will need to raise enough money to operate the facility and we will need countless volunteers to help us to care for the animals that we take in.
Thank you for all that you have done to make this dream a reality for our county!
