More information about Literacy Coalition of Kokomo-Howard County, Inc.: We provide instruction and resources for adult students who need help with basic reading, math or language skills. We work with English Language Learners and adults who are preparing to take a high school equivalency test.

Rita and Stu Engle celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last year. They are teachers at Western Middle School and Lewis Cass High School respectively. Rita has taught computers and business classes at Western for 21 years while Stu has taught English and journalism at the home of the Kings for 39 years. When their youngest son Doug left for college nine years ago, the Engles took their first ballroom dancing lessons and have been members of the Kokomo Ballroom Dance Club ever since. They have three grown children: Rachel and her husband Mike live in Indianapolis with their two grandsons. Their oldest son Ken and his wife Salisa live in Nashville, Tennessee, while Doug and his wife Emily live in Augusta, Georgia. Stu and Rita play tennis regularly. Stu coached boys’ and girls’ tennis at Cass for 31 years and is the adviser of the Kings’ Courier, Cass’ daily online high school newspaper. Besides teaching, Rita enjoys working with the Western Junior Honor Society. They both enjoy riding bikes on the Nickel Plate trail. When they are not actively involved in their numerous activities, they enjoy traveling usually to see their children and family that are scattered throughout the country.
