DWTS - Dubuque Style (RFTK)

On May 12th, 2018 I will be participating in this year’s Dancing with the Stars – Dubuque Style. This event is sponsored by the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce. For those of you not familiar, nine other individuals and I have taken on a journey to not only sharpen our dance moves but to more importantly raise money for a local non-profit charity of our choice. I am proudly dancing for the Research For the Kids (RFTK) non-profit organization!
Research For the Kids (RFTK) is a local nonprofit organization driven by the tragedy and hope to remember Sarah Reiss and to honor Matthew Wessels. Sarah Reiss, from Dubuque, was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a cancerous brain tumor, in May of 2008. She went through surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, a stem cell transplant and countless procedures. She lost her courageous battle with cancer in Sept. 2010. Matthew Wessels, from Zwingle, was born with a heart condition that has already required three open-heart surgeries. Matthew will need surgeries in the future and lifelong monitoring of his heart.
Sarah and Matt’s families started (RFTK) in 2008 and every third Saturday in September they hold an annual Poker Run (Ride/Drive) directly to benefit Pediatric Brain Tumor and Heart Defects Research programs at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. Sarah, Matt, and many other kids from the Dubuque area have experienced the outstanding service, care, compassion, and talents provided by the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.
All the funds I raise will go straight to the Research for the Kids organization which will be forwarded on to the Brain Tumor and Heart Defect Research Programs at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. I am excited to be dancing for this organization and helping them raise awareness for their cause. I have been touched by the amazing care, compassion and service the Iowa Children’s Hospital has provided to my surrounding friends and family over the years. This is my way of giving back and helping impact the care/treatments of future heart defect and brain tumor patients and their families. I am asking for your support in helping me meet my $50,000 goal! I believe my goal can be reached with the help of you and so many others. Any size donation will help and is much appreciated.
You can also make checks payable to “Research for the Kids” and include Dancing with the Stars in the memo line. Checks can be mailed to 105 Ralph Ct, East Dubuque, IL 61025 or handed to me personally.
