Dustin's Memory

Donation protected
On May 1, 2018, our son Dustin took his own life.  Through this tragedy, we have seen an outpouring of love from so many people, and most want to know how to help.  Here is the best way that you can help right now.

Some of you know that just over a year ago, I left CO to go work in CA to re-start a business in the San Diego area.  We had sold a house and used the proceeds to live off of for the last year.  I have yet to become profitable and was in the process of making a change that I believe would start bringing in the money needed to support our household.  At this point, I don’t know when I will be able to get back to that as the only way I felt comfortable leaving my wife in CO and going out of state to work is that I knew she had Dustin to be here for her, take care of things around the house and be a support for her.  Now that he is gone, I am having a hard time imagining leaving my wife alone.  Annie also only has 5 days of paid bereavement leave and there is no way she is going to be able to go back to work next week.  If she has to take time off under FMLA, it will be unpaid and there will be no income coming in.  On top of that, Dustin had no life insurance.  We spent well over $10,000, probably even double that in the last year and a half trying to help and support Dustin.  Our savings is gone and we have been using credit cards to pay bills lately.  We have lived on faith many times in our 31 years of marriage and God always provided, even in the small ways.  Right now, I don’t know what to do as things look dire in the upcoming weeks financially and the last thing we need is to deal with a financial crisis on top of our grief over losing our son.

Those of you that know me, know that I do not like asking for anything, and have never asked for a hand out.  It is painful for me, but I am setting up a go fund me account for donations in hopes that other’s generosity will help us with paying for everything for Dustin, allowing us to stay in our house and not get into a financial crisis.  Some I know cannot give, but for those that can, anything that you can help us with at this time of need would be appreciated beyond belief.  Tears are streaming down my face as I type this, but as someone very close to me just told me this morning, don’t take away the ability to allow others to bless us right now.  Perhaps helping us with expenses is the only way you can truly help us as we don’t really need food, flowers or things like that.  I really don’t even know how much to ask for as Go Fund Me wants me to put a goal amount in.  I think I will just say $10,000 as that would help, but it really is up to whatever hearts are led to do, and no matter how small or large the amount it, we will be so grateful.  If the floodgates open and we are blessed beyond what our needs are, any excess funds will be set aside to take care of needs that Gunner will have as he grows up without his father.

I am posting this same portion of the message on the Go Fund Me page and linking it to my Facebook account.  Please pass this along and share it with anyone you think might be touched by our story.  I’m not really expecting much, but then again, I did not expect the outpouring of love I have seen from all you of already.

Much love and God’s mercy and blessings to all of us.
