Duke TIP Summer Studies Fundraiser

Hello! My name is Justin Hobbs, and I am trying to earn enough money to go to the Duke TIP (Talent Identification Program) Summer Studies program at Duke University in July. Duke TIP Summer Studies is a great program that lets the campers choose an area that interests them to study during a three week period at Duke University. Campers sleep in the dorms and eat at the dining halls. One session of Duke TIP Summer Studies is equivalent to a year of high school or a semester of college. I chose to apply for the programming robotics area, and I was accepted.

However, since Duke TIP is a three week residential camp, it is rather expensive. I have been awarded a generous scholarship, but I still need to raise $1,500 in order to attend the camp. This cost includes the tuition for the camp, room and board, and airfare, and is due the beginning of March. Duke TIP Summer Studies is a great chance for me to learn new things, to make new friends, and show me some other areas of the country. This also looks great on a college application.

I know that there is no way I could pay back the generosity for which I am very grateful, but I will be paying it forward by serving others through volunteering at Tabitha’s way, a local food charity.  As a family we will also be preparing and serving meals for the Circle organization, a nonprofit that helps families step out of poverty.  Because of the kindness shown to me, I would like to show kindness to others.
