Duke Harmon and Kathi Harmon

Today is Day 20 of my stepdad, Duke Harmon, being in CVICU. He had a quintuple heart bypass. And was allergic to the blood thickener that was administered to him. His kidneys, liver, pancreas, and lungs have all been affected. He was on a ventilator for 19 days. They did another surgery today for a tracheotomy to replace the ventilator. He is now receiving long term dialysis, has pneumonia, MRSA, pancreatitis, still receiving blood transfusions and platelets. He has a feeding tube in place. But they can’t feed him through it due to the pancreatitis. His blood pressure is not stable. And he has been in AFib a few times. He finally started to wake a little 4 days ago.  He can respond yes by blinking once and no by blinking twice. He can’t move his arms or legs. But can move his thumb and toes a little. He has been through more than most people can handle. And yet he is still fighting.  He turned 57 on Saturday. He will be in the hospital for possibly months followed by a hospital rehab facility for at least 3 months. He obviously won’t be working. And my mom doesn’t work, either. She has been by his side through this whole ordeal. My brother and I are asking for donations to help with the cost of medical bills, rehabilitation bills, household bills, utilities, and gas to and from the hospital. We are not sure when Duke will be able to return to work. If he will even be able to return to work. Our mom’s focus needs to be on Duke. Not worrying about how to pay the bills.
