The Davis Sailing Team
We are a student-run nonprofit organization whose main goal is to contribute to the sailing community by teaching its members how to sail and immersing them in a competitive intercollegiate team. By donating to our campaign, you're helping us repair our equipment and alleviate the costs of running an intercollegiate sports team.
Stoneyburke Regatta 2016 at Treasure Island
What We Do
We race all across California, with regattas in San Diego, Santa Barbara, Treasure Island, Irvine, San Luis Obispo, and Long Beach. We even attend a regatta just outside of Portland, Oregon! These races are against schools from everywhere on the West Coast- University of Hawaii, University of Victoria (Canada!) Western Washington, all the UCs and most CSUs and Arizona State University. Most importantly, we bring together students from a wide variety of backgrounds, and forge strong long-lasting friendships throughout our adventures.

Our team is entirely self taught, relying on the experiences of our fellow sailors. With practices every weekend at Lake Washington, we strive to provide the best possible experiences for our sailors. Our board members work tirelessly to organize regattas and practices in addition to working and schoolwork.

How You Can Help
With your donation, we will be able to make this team a better resource for students in the Davis community. Funding directly determines how many regattas we can attend a year. For instance, going to the Pacific Coast Championships regatta in Fall 2015 cost us nearly $1,000.
Being supported solely by membership dues, we spend the majority of our funds on transportation and housing at events all over the west coast, and nearly $1,000 in ICSA conference dues just to be able to compete against other schools. Addtionally, we spent over $1,000 last year just on repairs.
The reason why we are forced to repair old equipment is because purchasing new equipment is very costly. For instance:
New C-FJ Sails costs $900 each
New race dolly costs $500 each
New rudder and tiller costs $300-$450
Used C-FJ: Our newest (used) addition to the team cost $2,500
New C- FJ costs between$7,500-$8,000
We currently practice with 4 boats due to a tiller being damaged
Our team has been steadily growing since its inception, with over 20 active members sailing each quarter. We predict to continue to grow to 30+ strong by the start of Fall Quarter 2017 and with our current fleet of 5 FJs, only 10 of our sailors are able to be on the water at a time. Ideally, within several years we hope to be able to purchase another used boat for ~$2,500, but that is highly dependent on our team finances. With your help, we could increase our fleet before the new school year in Fall 2017!
Our ideal goal is to raise $9,000. This would allow us to purchase boats and give us enough extra funds to purchase new parts and offset regatta costs.
This year was DST's best attendance to Pacific Coast Championships ever!

Being a 501c3 organization, we accept all donations. Besides the ability to write off your donations, contact us for direct inquiries about our charitable status. If you'd prefer to donate but not recieve any gifts, feel free to check out our website to see other options! All the reward items include shipping and material costs. If you would prefer to remain anonymous, please email us and we won't add your name to our website. We will also be emailing donors after the campaign to gather the necessary information about your gifts!
