I'm just an awkward kid trying to make her way in a big, big world through the performing arts; that is, marching band. Some of you probably marched in high school. Some of you may have marched in college. I have a unique opportunity between high school and college.
Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps is a nonprofit youth performing arts organization based in Atlanta, GA. As part of Drum Corps International, they perform 30 shows nationwide over the summer. Based on my music, movement, and “tremendous force of will”, Spirit has offered me a contract to join 149 other artists in a 12-minute show, displaying outdoor pageantry and combining arts and athletics.
But only if I can pay for it.
Drum corps costs money. Travel, registration, supplies, spring training, and personal expenses sing a tune of $4000. My June 15th deadline looms.
