Help Kozefò Build a School in Haiti
In December of 2017, we launched our Building Project and set out to purchase new land and build a new structure for the school we support in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, A New Arrival Center School.
In just a few short months, our friends and supporters heard our story and helped raise an incredible $80,000. With that money, we were able to make a down payment on a plot of land and begin building classrooms. During the Summer of 2018, Haitian contractors, students, and parents worked diligently to get the construction of 9 new classrooms, an office, and a kitchen completed before September 2018. A New Arrival Center School has now completed its first full school year in their new classrooms.
We are now at the point where the rest of the land payment is due. We are calling on dedicated sponsors and new friends to join us in our goal to raise $42,000 by the end of July, and an additional $40,000 by the end of October 2019 to close out our property purchase. If we are unable to make these payments, there is a real possibility that the future of the school is at risk.
Any donation, big or small, will help us get to our goal. Thank you for partnering with us in this work. 100% of your tax-refundable donation will go toward funding this project.
Help us keep programming running for the upcoming school year by supporting our Capital Campaign to pay off the remaining purchase price! We owe $42,000 at the end of July and another $40,000 by the end of October.
Please join us as we provide education and instill hope for our students and their families!
As you can imagine, we're learning a ton about Haitian real estate in this process. There is so much to consider when considering where to buy... How far from the main road is it? Is it accessible via car or motorcycle? Does it already have a perimeter wall (these are surprisingly extremely expensive to install)? Can we work around the existing trees and vegetation, or do we need to do any removal? How far is it from where the majority of our students currently live? Is there or could there be access to water? Is the land in a good spot to eventually set up internet? How many people own the land? Does the landowner(s) have their paperwork?
We are so thankful for the $40,000 that has already been donated to this project. To purchase this plot of land we have our eye on, we are in need of an additional $125,000. Any donation, big or small, will help us get to our goal for Phase 1!
The rented space currently provides education to 124 students across grades 1-8, with plans to continue adding classes to be a school for grades 1-12. They have overgrown their space and recently lost three outdoor classrooms to the landlord's request and now house 100+ students in rooftop classrooms.
Please dream with us as we gather funding to build this new school for our students. Kozefò (meaning to Speak Loud in Creole - as they speak out against the injustice of a lack of education for many young Haitians) is the supporter of this school, providing financial support, teacher seminars, and encouragement to staff and students along the way.
