The life of Drake Durkee tragically ended during a whitewater rafting tour in Buena Vista, Colorado, on June 10, 2015. He was eleven years old.
Drake's life would seem too short to many, but those whose lives were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives.
Drake attended Maple Grove Elementary School in his hometown of Golden, CO, where he just completed the fifth grade. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, where he served as an altar server.
Drake's spirited personality and determined work ethic inspired everyone he came in contact with. He inspired his friends and teammates to seek the same level of excellence that he did.
Drake played on numerous football and basketball teams and achieved championship status on many. His determination to do his very best and give 110% in everything he did propelled him to the top.
Drake was an avid Denver Broncos fan. He could quote stats and knew the basics and rules of football better than any adult fan. Drake's Bronco hero was Demaryius Thomas, and his life lesson hero - Tim Tebow.
Although all of the above was very important to Drake, his family always came first, and his dad was his personal hero. Drake's goal was to play for the Denver Broncos one day, and if he couldn't achieve that, he wanted to be a firefighter, like his dad. Drake's mom was the apple of his eye whom he depended upon for everything. His siblings, Deidre, Dana and Dawson were his very best friends and support system. The Durkee family had a rule... "we either do it together or not at all." Drake's devastated family include his parents, Daniel and Melissa Durkee, and siblings Deidre, Dana and Dawson Durkee, all of Golden, CO. In addition are his grandmother Judy Durkee, grandparents Steve and Kathy Feeldy, aunt Dawn and uncle Brian Brindle, uncle Chad and aunt Corinna Feeldy and three cousins.
Memorials donated to this account will be distributed to various charities in Drake's name. Memorials may also be directed to any Wells Fargo Bank by using the name "Drake Durkee Memorial Fund."
