DRAGONS NEED HELP TOO: Davey's Recovery Fund

HELP THIS DRAGON FLY AGAIN!!

Hello everyone! For my birthday, I am raising money to cover specific medical testing and supportive device expenses for my long term care needs.
Many of you may know that Davey has recently struggled with complications from almost 15years of shibari and circus/dynamic rope work and performance that came to a head last year just before Folsom season. They have been assessed on a preliminary basis as radial neuropathy, ulnar neuropathy, and sustained (multiple injury) C1 impingement. What this means is that every day is faced with different levels of limited motor functionality, pain, and nerve distress. The last year has involved stepping away from both employment and community engagement in order to manage pain and minimize further injury. MediCal and shifting primary care has been exceptionally challenging to navigate for the first year of seeking treatment while every penny earned has actively been aimed for rent and survival needs, not medical care. This is the big ask – to be able to put medical care needs first, and to have the resources to afford necessary expenses, we need community support.

If you want to celebrate Davey, their contributions to the community, or their birthday – this is the time and the place! If you want to support Davey as they continue to work towards disability assistance and better insurance coverage – you know what to do! Every dollar makes a difference – if you don't have any dollars, know that I still am grateful for your presence in my life. If uncertain of how else to support or celebrate, please consider SHARING this post and making an appeal to others!

Since September 2018 many community members have asked “How can I help?” and I haven't had the answer. Call it shame, call it pride, call it anger with living with disability, the root was always... being too scared to ask. Well, now I'm asking. From August 19th (my birthday!) till September 1st, any money you can contribute to this fund will be put to specific effective use towards necessary medical care. It has taken time to come up with a list of what would ACTUALLY make a change for my day to day pain management, and what can appropriately contribute to diagnostics not covered by insurance, but here it is. Please, I am asking – help me make this wishlist happen!!

-->THIS IS THE FIRST AND ONLY GoFundMe DAVEY WILL EVER PUT OUT FOR THEIR DISABILITY PROCESS. (There's actually rules on that if you're applying for SSI/disability!) Please consider contributing!<--

Thank you to all of my loves, family, friends, community for hearing this appeal. If you are reading this, maybe you have witnessed some of the struggle in the last year, the converted copper sock compression sleeves on my arms, the asking for help to open doors or lift anything, the crying in corners before stepping on stage. Maybe you've been there to physically help with my bags or stop me from stubbornly attempting some task, or listened to me rant about physical and social struggles since my shift in status. Maybe I wasn't my best with you in some moment due to exhaustion or pain or challenges in communication – and for that I am sorry and hope one day I will have the resources to make amends. I want to be my best self, whatever that may be while compassionately living with my body as it is today, and know I need some help to get there. This is me asking. Thank you for listening!

GoFundMe Goals

This is the list of what we are hoping to specifically raise money for (what we can't afford when in survival mode, or have not been able to manifest through insurance for 1 year). Hopefully some of these diagnostic results will help with understanding some of the more complicated symptoms that have manifested while seeking treatment (including symptoms of possible concurrent issues that have been undiagnosed for years), and some of the support tools will aid in long term recovery and care:

Lyme testing (including initial consult for infectious disease specialist, and expenses of tick borne disease testing) - $1000

Allergen testing - $250

Sleep & Stress hormonal testing - $250

Dragon Speech Recognition (Dragon Home v15 & 1 year Dragon Anywhere) - $300

(weighted blanket was DIRECTLY DONATED <3)

night splints (assorted devices for neck, arms, wrists/hands as needed) - $200

medical grade compression (2 pairs arm sleeves, different compression levels) - $360

C1 supportive pillow - $60

traction devices - $100

updated vision (glasses/contacts prescription, new glasses & sunglasses) - $300

2 month rent reserve - $1000

1 month reserve utilities - $180

unknown FUTURE medical expenses - $1000 (raised from $400)

6 months SPARC class supplies - $500

updated class supplies for PACK NIGHT - $100

pair of new hand-accessible long lasting everyday/everywhere boots .- $150

medications & misc. expenses - $250

==================================================

Beyond the initial $5k raised, 50% of ALL monies raised on this GoFundMe by September 1st will be donated back to the community directly to St. James Infirmary  in appreciation for all the services they provide for multiple communities that matter to me, and for being the direct source of mental health support for myself and so many that have no where else to go for truly compassionate care.

That means if this fundraiser can meet the new goal of $7k by September 1st, a total of $1000 will be donated. The exact amount will be documented and published when completed. Please help me also reach this goal to give a little back to the community clinic that has kept Davey going for the last year!
