Donation protected
Dr. Manuel Ching Pecana passed away on the 8th of December 2017. He was born on the 29th of November 1945 to Ricardo Pecana and Felisa (Ching) Pecana. In his lifetime he served, loved and lived to the fullest. He was a patron to causes close to his heart and was unafraid to give a helping hand literally and figuratively. He used his skills and knowledge to better the lives of many locally and a far.
Dr. Pecana spent his early school years at Pedro Guevara in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, Philippines and graduated from University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Manila, Philippines in 1969. He completed his internship at St. Michael Hospital in Milwaukee, WI and his residencies in general surgery and anesthesiology at Youngstown Hospital Association in Youngstown, OH.
Dr. Pecana was a member and former president of The Filipino Association of Greater Kansas City, a member of the Sinag Tala in Kansas City, a former president and member of the North Texas Association of Philippine Physicians, and received the 2013 Humanitarian Award from the Philippine Association DFW. One of the most valued services he gave selflessly to was his annual medical mission trips to the Philippines, Vietnam,Nepal where they would provide medical treatment and care with limited resources and facilities to those in the poorest regions and the greatest of needs. Dr. Pecana would not leave until the very last patient was seen. Many times, this meant he saw hundreds of patients in one day. He was one of the first to volunteer after natural disasters such as the 2015 earthquake in Nepal when he went to the rural mountains to treat those affected even though there were continuous aftershocks. He also served the communities he lived in and would volunteer his time to community free health programs.
Dr. Pecana had many interests and joys. He was an avid chess and tennis player. He could keep a beat and dance with the best of them. He was just as excited about a touchdown as he was to hear a beautiful choir. He enjoyed traveling and was an adventurer at heart. He loved meeting new people, experiencing a new culture and learning the local history. He was an excellent story teller and his wit and sense of humor were second to none. Most of all he loved sharing his passions, stories, laughter, and adventures with his family and friends.
Dr. Pecana was preceded in death by his parents Ricardo and Felisa (Ching) Pecana, sisters Elvira C. Pecana, Mila C. Pecana, and Celia Pecana - Giron. He is survived by the love of his life, Mahendra Oli (Andy), his son, Tai Trinh, sisters- Theresita C. Pecana, Elsa C. Pecana, Estrelita P. Pamatmat, Aida P. Estanislao, Myrna P. Pecana and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. He has many friends who he held dear to him and his extended family is innumerable.
In lieu of flowers, a gofund.me account has been created in order to allow those who would like to provide a gift for his son’s college fund and assist with funeral costs.
