Launched in August 2017, the primary goal of this foundation is to provide financial assistance to indigent and orphaned elementary school-age students in Etinan Local Government (Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria), for their basic school and medical needs. The first cohort of these students is currently in primary one and primary two (first and second grades respectively) in Government School, Ikot Ebo, Etinan Local Government. My plan is to continue to support these students through the remaining five to six years of their elementary schooling.
Last year (2018), thanks to the support, generosity and fundraising skills of Newton North High School Community, Akwa Ibom Community Association of Massachusetts (AICAM), the Etinan Family Forum, Abuja (EFFA), Nigeria, colleagues, friends and family members, I raised $3585. With these funds, I bought school uniforms and Christmas presents (clothes and shoes) for the 25 “scholars”; paid for their medical (physical) examination and medication; and ship donated school supplies, toothbrushes and toothpastes to Nigeria.
For these students, the highlight of last year’s activities was certainly the two-week Summer Enrichment Program. This five-hour daily program included academic and recreational activities; daily breakfast and lunch; a field trip to a popular children’s fast-food restaurant in Uyo (Akwa Ibom State capital); and a “not-so-fun” trip to a hospital for their first medical check-up and some basic medical treatments.
My plan for this year is to raise $5000.00 to cover the expenses for all the above activities and support, and, payment for long overdue and, in some cases, life-threatening medical procedures for two of these students. I am also soliciting the donation of clothes (lightly worn and/or new) for these six to ten-year old boys and girls.
I would greatly appreciate any financial assistance that will enable me to meet these goals.
