92 Year Old Luther Needs Our Help!

My name is Evie, and I am asking for help for my dear friend, Luther Walker. Luther will be 92 years old on the 18th of this month. Luther is still gainfully employed as a Crossing Guard at Mitchell Elementary School in Dallas, Texas, and has been there for 13 years, and has been well loved there by the kids through the years and the parents. Those kids are everything to Luther. He worked at another school before Mitchell, which is where I met him 14 years ago while walking my dog very early in the mornings, and we've been friends ever since. Luther is the most precious person I know. He is SO kind, positive, loving, and just needs a 'hand up' right now. You may wonder how a 92 year old could still be working a Monday thru Friday job. Well let me tell you, Luther is not your typical 92 year old. He is one of a kind for sure.
Luther's 2003 car is in terrible shape. He can only drive it a couple of miles before it overheats. We took it to Christian Brothers Automotive to see what could be done, and Christian Brothers determined he shouldn't be driving it at all until its fixed. There were two pages of things to be repaired. It barely has any brakes left and is leaking from practically every part in the car. The repairs to keep it on the road will be around $2500. dollars. At 92 years old, Luther has no financial way to buy another car or make payments on one, but he has to have one.
At 92, Luther has no family that can help, and is finding himself in a situation like a lot of elderly Seniors. Many have outlived their savings and retirement. His Social Security barely covers his rent, utilities, car insurance, phone, etc. I've helped him in some other financial areas as much as I can, and now I'm hoping I can help him by supporting him through GoFundMe.
Another Crossing Guard friend of Luther's has been working with him to reduce some of his expenses, like his car insurance. He was literally being robbed by a major insurance company with outrageous rates. There are so many Seniors out there who don't have families, or families that don't care, and companies really can take advantage of them. It's very sad.
If by any chance someone might have a spare car (local to DFW) they would like to donate, or sale for a small price, we would definitely love to talk with you.
Also, Luther's birthday is on the 18th. It would be awesome if some of you might be able to send a birthday card. He told me yesterday how exciting it is to get a personal piece of mail in his mailbox, and that he rarely ever gets any. Let's show him some love on his 92nd Birthday, can we!
