Downpayment for Wheelchair Accessible Van

Johnny (or John) has spent his life confined to a wheelchair as a result of a disability believed to have been caused during birth. He has endured countless medical procedures and surgeries over the course of his 40 years and has fought back from two separate bouts of sepsis- a near fatal infection of the blood that often causes the organs to fail.
Johnny is a FIGHTER!
Johnny's only mode of transportation is his very old van and it is on its last legs. It breaks down on a regular basis with John and his caregiver often stuck until help arrives. For someone like John, having the ability to be out in the community and not stuck inside his apartment is very important! Without a working and reliable van, he wouldn't be able to get to his volunteer work at the Marin Humane Society (which brings him immense joy!) or meet up with his friends at Starbuck's or show-up to work at Whistlestop Wheels where he sets tables before the restaurant opens. John also has his own "small business" in the community where he picks up other peoples recycling, takes it to the recycling plant and receives his "pay check". This gives John so much pride as he feels like he is contributing. Many of you are probably his customers- thank you!
