Dear friends,
Soon after I shared the news about Doug's penile cancer diagnosis, several of you asked how you could help with our medical expenses (thank you!!). If Doug or I have touched your life, or if you simply feel drawn to help us, every amount will be sincerely appreciated and immediately applied to support Doug's healing.
Why are we hoping to receive $27,000? In a nut shell, Doug's no longer able to work (as of Sept 2016) and we've used up our savings.
He's applied for disability but there's a five month waiting period, and we're waiting to hear about long-term disability. Basically, we've lost half of our income. Also, Doug's medical debt is around $13,000 and growing.
Doug's recovery means so much to me because we've only had five and a half years together. Many of you know what I went through during the 40 years before meeting Doug and how much happiness his loving, nurturing, fun self has brought to me. Well, the same is true for him. We really, really like each other :) and we love each other deeply. The surgeies to remove Doug's cancer were extensive, and so will his recovery, but we are so very grateful that recovery is possible for him!
Your help in covering our medical costs and living expenses will feel like a warm hug wrapping around us. As one friend said, "I can't imagine your world not rallying for you!" And you know what? I can't either.
In the past we wouldn't have asked for help, but now we understand that inviting others to help when we need it opens up room for all of us to feel good. Thank you for what you can give.
