Doug is recovering -Heart Attack

Be sure to see the update- May

of 2018.  Thank You!   Doug Schoelles
was riding his motorcycle to a siding job for a friend on Saturday morning July 15.  He ate breakfast at a small local restaurant, and headed off.  Not 2 miles up the road he evidently hit a wet spot as it was drizzling  but was not able to recover out of the spin. He was thrown over a guardrail into a rocky creek.  Now, Doug is an experienced rider so this is especially sad, and he was going less than 30  miles an hour at that point of the road!

A wonderful couple found him and he was conscious enough to have them call his wife, Sandy Schoelles (whom many of you know as the Environmental Coffee House online  founder) and the police.  He was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester NY where he was diagnosed with a broken neck, and had to have emergency surgery to put a plate and screws down the length of his left arm.  He also has a  broken clavicle,  scapula and tailbone, along with contusions, and a fractured C1 and T-7.   He is fairly beaten up.   However, his leather jacket and helmet saved his life!  The really sad part of this is he had been offered a new job that was to start soon after being laid off for over 8 months.  Doug works with his hands and  body.  Sandy, his wife, had to retire medically from her job 3 years ago and receives disability from that job, so this accident couldn't have come at a worse time.   This Go Fund Me  will be used to offset any uncovered costs that Sandy's health insurance doesn't cover, and will help hire someone to take care of their land and vegetable garden, as Sandy has had three lower back surgeries, has multiple herniations in her neck and can't do the heavy work that she depends on Doug to do.  Both of them are really going to need some help to get through this, as Sandy is already having a difficult time figuring out how to manage everything as it is! Without her Doug, it is going to require outside help, especially if they need medical help at home, which is not known at the time of this writing.   This is not an easy thing for a proud guy to do, create a fundraiser like this, but these two are really going to need assistance. Update- July 20 while we were in the hospital a freak tornado hit our home and caused damage to so much of our property that is was unbelievable.  When we get home Doug said it looked like a bomb went off.  You can't make this stuff up!  No one would expect a tornado in the Southern Tier of Western NY!  Talk about stress and anxiety, tears and fears.   Wow.

There is an update.   Doug had a heart attack. Danm.  One guy has to endure so much.
