Dorian's FtM Fund
Hello!
I'm Emil-Dorian McHale, I'm 18 (almost 19 ;)) years old. I am a transgender man (female to male) from York, UK, and - as I've spent years dwelling on the subject - I have decided that it is time to pursue gender re-assignment.
The reason I know that this is what I want is because of the years previously that I spent trying to compensate for my internal alienation. Every day gets harder to work through, and life has got to a point where something needs to be done. I would go on the NHS, but I have been waiting two years to no avail - and due to personal circumstances I have to move house this year, meaning that, on the NHS, it would take at least another two years to get even an appointment. I know my circumstances could be much, much worse, but I feel that I have to take some course of action to keep the demons at bay.
This photo of me is a lil' cringey -- but it's the only one I have of me as a kid. The one below that is also awkard - 3 years ago, when I hated my picture being taken.
Anyhoo, if I am so lucky to be able to get onto the big ol' T, I want to document my journey to help other transgender people out there, and everyone involved in their own journey. It would be interesting to get a student's perspective on the transition, too - since I'll be going to university next year!
To let you know what the £1,500 cost is covering, here's a basic reasoning. Most doctors in this field of work cost £200-300 per session, and to begin T I will need a minimum of two sessions. Then, there are counselling sessions that are often preffered for doctors to be sure - which cost around £50 each, and I will need three of those. There will be more sessions with the doctor, and that will be on a discounted price of under £200. Then, there's bloodwork of £270 and travel prices that range dramatically. Testosterone comes in around £300 if I cannot share with the NHS. Very complicated! But worth it, to me.
Doing all of this would make my dreams come true. I've spent a very long time wondering about all of this and I really wish to help everyone else by documenting this too. Please ask, if you have any problems, on my twitter @emil_mchale!
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this, and I just wanted to say that, even just hanging around here and understanding, you help to promote awareness and well-being for transgender people every day.
I wish you all well,
Emil-Dorian McHale.
