Donnie Smith - Recovery

“As one person we cannot change the world, but we can change the world of one person.”

On October 17, 2018 our colleague, friend, uncle, brother, son, and father, Donnie Smith was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Donnie had suffered from a heart attack due to several artery blockages. After being sent by ambulance to the New Brunswick Heart Centre in the Saint John Regional Hospital (SJRH), Donnie underwent a triple bypass open heart surgery to repair 3 clogged arteries, two at 90% and, and one at 50%. This surgery went perfectly thanks to the amazing staff at SJRH. Now, after his three week stay in Saint John, Donnie is living at home in Cornwall, PEI for the duration of his 3-4 month recovery. 

Donnie will be unable to work during his recovery; this fund is in place to assist with the expenses of treatment and general day-to-day living expenses for he and Porter.
Donnie has always been one of those guys who always showed up for others, be it loading traps on opening/closing day (which he loved to do), dropping by just to talk with to a friend, watching a Saturday afternoon rugby game with the “old guys” on the sidelines, help a buddy with a garage door, collect for the 50/50 draw at Porters ball games or attend a wake or funeral to give his condolences to a friends family.
 
Many people have reached out to offer help, and many have wanted to know if they can offer any financial support during this time. Our hope is this page creates that opportunity, as any donation or words of support help Donnie to focus on healing and returning to regular life.
