Donna Ludvig -Turner is my Mother. She's a loving mother of three and Grandmother of one. She is a passionate St.John ambulance volunteer and she and my father run a small daycare where the kids simply adore her.
On December 20th at 8pm an aneurysm burst in my mother's brain. She was airlifted from the Cowichan District Hospital in Duncan to Vancouver General Hospital at 3am, pre-op was 11 am and surgery was 12:30 to 5:30. She survived.
Just days before Christmas, a mere week and a half from her only Grandchild's 5th Birthday. This should be a happy time of festivities, instead she's in a hospital bed in an ICU and we don't even know if she can walk and while she shows no clear sign of mental damage we still don't know how much damage this extreme trauma has caused. They need to keep her for at least two weeks for observation. After that it's probably another hospital or in home care.
The fight for physical recovery is in her hands, it will be long road and require a lot of work. And there is an enormous cost to this made higher by the fact she has neither benefits nor insurance to help with this burden. Donna was the primary breadwinner, so now my parents have no income. The daycare services are temporarily suspended and the capacity will be severely reduced even after she comes home. The Disability cheque my father recieves doesn't even cover the cost of food and they were already behind in their rent before this. Now they face possible eviction on top of the cost of everything, literally everything. Parking at the hospital, the ferry trips to the Mainland, the air ambulance trip and further ambulances when they transfer her ... We don't even know how much her medication is going to cost when she comes home or if she will have a home to come to.
Every donation will go toward providing for her recovery. Her medication, her home, everything. Please don't let my mom survive this fight with nothing to come back to.
