Of lavender and myrrh, ylang ylang and Egyptian musk…contained in marvelous sculpted soap forms, each representing a healing crystal. These healing soaps are the work of Donisha Polk. Donisha is an incredible artist and resident of Portland who needs our help to heal.
Born and raised in New Orleans, Donisha is a survivor of Hurricane Katrina, domestic violence, and a stroke, and she navigates daily life with Crohn’s disease. Nevertheless, this woman has persisted, and her dream of having a small soap company came true in Portland.
Despite periodic homelessness and health challenges, this single mom has been able to successfully run a business. For several years, Soothing Dreams provided for Donisha and her young son, Dee. However, a severe Crohn’s exacerbation has set her back. She was also awarded a scholarship that subsequently fell through.
