Salem Fire - bakery employees lose everything!

Donation protected
On November 24th, 2018, a fire completely destroyed  the 12-unit apartment building at 12 Lynde Street in Salem. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Two of our amazing bakers, Tom Bush and Brandon Wooster, had apartments in the house (Brandon and Tom work the night shift - staying up until 2am to make the baguettes and ciabatta that Salem enjoys on a daily basis).  We are so thankful that they - and all the other residents - came away without injury. But they lost almost everything they owned.

We are establishing this fund to help our friends get back on their feet. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. We are doing what we can at the bakery for our employees, but having to start from scratch, find a place to live (especially in the North Shore housing market - what a mess), and replace lost clothes, cookware, and even the most basic items we use to go about our daily lives is more than anyone should handle alone. Every little bit helps - they'll need cash to put down as a deposit on a new apartment, get new socks, replace a microwave, plates and silverware, purchase a mattress and box spring, replace a basic wardrobe, shoes...and about a million other things that I can't even think about having to replace if it all went up in smoke. It all adds up very, very quickly.

Jackie and I will be managing this campaign, and (obviously) donating 100% of the proceeds to be equally split between Tom and Brandon - we figured this would be more effective than setting up two separate drives.  The amount is arbitrary! Just saying.

Thank you for considering supporting our friends and employees. Let's show them what the Salem and baking communities can do to help them out!!

1. Withdrawal plan: We will be drawing the donated funds to a savings account, and immediately dispersing the funds equally via cashiers check to Tom and Brandon. The first withdrawal will be as early as mid-week, when we get a chance to see Tom and Brandon again. We will most likely be ending this campaign when donations stop.

2. Spending Plan: As almost everything Tom and Brandon had was destroyed in the fire, the funds gathered will be spent (as mentioned above) to replace: clothes, outerwear, shoes, boots, beds/mattresses, sheets, blankets, basic furniture (futon/couch, table and chairs, bookcase, night stand, dresser, etc), cookware (pots, pans), small appliances (microwave, toaster oven, crock pot, etc), silverware, dishes for eating, and anything else they lost. They will also need to put down deposits and first/last month payments on any new apartment they sign leases on. This may be the biggest expense. Your donations will go to support all of these costs!
