Donald DaCosta - Assistance Fundraiser

On November 7th, 2019, Donald was in an accident where the dump truck he was driving flipped over on its side. The ambulance bypassed several metro Atlanta cities to rush him to the Trauma ER at Atlanta Medical. He suffered a fracture to the facial bones, concussion, subdural hematoma (bleeding on the brain), spine injury, a ruptured pocket of blood in the left eye, and had to get stitches in his head. While trying to recover, he was disabled by severe back/leg pain and nerve damage. He soon developed blood clots which traveled to his lungs. He was admitted on Christmas morning to Emory ICU for bilateral Pulmonary Emboli (blood clots in both lungs). It was a very complicated case for the doctors because he presented with two life threatening issues; he needed blood thinners due to the clots in his lungs, however, he has an active bleed on his brain (which the blood thinners would make worse). After spending the holidays and New Years in the hospital, he was discharged home. One week later, he was admitted back to the hospital to the Neuro ICU because the subdural hematoma (blood on his brain) doubled in size. While preparing to be discharged, he was notified of the death of his oldest son and now has to grieve while recovering. Donald will not be able to work until he completely recovers. His wife, Beverly has had to miss work numerous times in order to care for her husband and take him to appointments. There has been many unexpected medical costs while they are currently at a financial “pause”. They are reaching out at this unfortunate time to family and friends for assistance.
