“So far we have lost all what money can buy and replace. My greatest fear for the morning is that we will wake to news of serious physical injury and possible deaths as a result of likely landslides triggered by persistent rains,” Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit wrote on Facebook. “I am honestly not preoccupied with physical damage at this time, because it is devastating...indeed, mind-boggling. My focus now is in rescuing the trapped and securing medical assistance for the injured.”

Hurricane Maria slammed into Dominica late Monday, causing “widespread devastation” to the 74,000-resident island as it slowly moved toward Puerto Rico Tuesday with winds of up to 160 miles per hour.

It was reported today (Sept 20) that there have been 9 deaths on the island and with the complete devastation it is very possible most of the population will be without basic necessities for months.

Our goal as Dominicans living in Canada, is to support our homeland anyway we can and to help our country recover from this disaster.  Millions and millions of dollars will be needed to give comfort back to the people of Dominica and we want to do as much as we can to help them recover.  Dominica is a small island in the Caribbean that won't get the attention of larger islands - they need our help right away.
