Dojo Build for Valley Aikido in Arizona
Valley Aikido in Arizona Hello. My name is Asim Hanif and I am the Chief Instructor of Valley Aikido in Arizona. I began martial arts training in 1972; primarily in boxing, judo, and karate. In 1994 I was introduced to aikido and my passion for the art has only increased with each year. I am currently ranked at 5th dan through the Aikikai Foundation in Japan. My teacher is Clyde Takeguchi 7th dan of Capital Aikikai. I am also the founder of Potomac Aikikai Inc, a non profit aikido organization located in Sterling, Virginia and this year celebrating it's 15th year of community service.
Since relocating to the Phoenix area 4 years ago, I’ve been fortunate to establish an aikido practice with a group of very dedicated individuals. Through the generosity of other area dojo, we’ve been able to rent mat time for our group to practice aikido.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise startup costs for our own dedicated dojo build. Having our own dojo will allow Valley Aikido in Arizona to implement our unique version of community activism. Valley Aikido in Arizona will be a space where we put the philosophy of aikido into action (follow #aikidoinaction). While our core activity is to get more people engaged in the practice of aikido, we will also be a community resource focused on action and advocacy in the area of pet adoption and awareness. There is a vital need for pet adoption in Arizona and we plan to contribute to that effort.
The most expensive item is the purchase of mats. Material costs for the mat foundation and construction of rooms is also needed. All work will be done by our members, family, and friends. The dojo will be unique in design and reflect our vision and purpose. Follow #valleyaikidostyle to see our progress and training.
The funds will be put to immediate use as we have identified several potential dojo locations. We would like to begin work by April 15, 2019.
Valley Aikido in Arizona is currently in the process of seeking non profit status. All staff and officers are volunteer.
