Injured Dog Vet Bills
Our Driver called "911" and waited for over 30 minutes for an Officer to respond. After a while, she called back to check on the status and was informed that standard procedure is to have Animal Control euthanize the Dog since it did not have a collar/tag.
Our Driver, a loving Dog owner herself, along with the Passengers, transported the Dog to a 24-Hour Animal Hospital in the Cottonwood Area (off of Highland Drive).
We just heard back from the Animal Hospital and the Dog is NOT micro-chipped and therefore the Owner cannot be located. The incident occurred around 4700 South and approximently 4800 West in West Valley. The Dog appears to be an older Male Chocolate Lab.
In addition, the Animal Hospital confirmed that the left side pelvis is shattered and the medical bills are estimated at $5,000+ for surgery (we are trying to raise $5,300+ to cover the GoFundMe fees).
We need your help for two thing...
1. Surgery cannot be performed until the bill is paid
2. We need to find the Owner ASAP
If we are unable to raise the funds in the next few days, then we risk the Animal Hospital turning the dog over to Animal Control, which will more than likely euthanize the Dog.
As we do not know the Dog's name... we are calling him "Charlie."
100% OF ALL DONATIONS WILL BE DIRECTED TO CHARLIE'S MEDICAL BILLS. ANY ADDITIONAL MONIES RAISED WILL BE PROVIDED TO NUZZLES & COMPANY. IN THE EVENT THAT WE FAIL TO RAISE ENOUGH OR IF "CHARLIE" DOES NOT MAKE IT... ALL MONEY WILL BE DONATED TO NUZZLES & COMPANY.
Who We Are:
Four Seasons Concierge is Park City's Premier Transportation and Concierge Team. One of our Drivers, Holly, was the person who rescued Charlie. Sam, the Owner of Four Seasons Concierge, worked with Holly to put together this Go Fund Me Campaign
Where We Are From:
We are based in Park City but cover the entire state of Utah.
Our Relationship With The Parties We Are Raising Funds For:
Holly saw Charlie get hit by a Car and took him to a 24-Hour Animal Hospital. Charlie is not her Dog. We are reaching out to local media and social media to try to find the Owners.
How The Funds Will Be Spent:
All monies donated will go to the immediate care of Charlie. Any "extra" monies donated will be giving in kind to Nuzzles and Company.
How We Intend To Get The Funds To Those In Need:
We will make direct payment to the Animal Hospital and hand deliver any additional monies directly to Nuzzles and Company.
This money will be held in trust for Charlie/Jeriko for the next 6 - 7 months. Should Charlie/Jeriko not utilize this money, Nuzzles & Company will put the donation to good use.
A total of $6,790.00 was donated.
GoFundMe takes 5% of that amount as their fee, or $339.50.
WePay, the company that processes the credit card transactions for GoFundMe, takes 2.9% of that amount and an additional $0.30 per donation/transaction. The fees for WePay totaled $268.29.
The amount received after the fees for both GoFundMe and WePay totaled $6,182.21.
Cottonwood Animal Hospital's total bill for "Charlie" was $5,185.57.
As per the Campaign, any additional monies that were donated to exceed the medical bills for "Charlie" would be donated to Nuzzles and Company. The total donation to Nuzzles and Company will be $996.64
I've spoken with Kathleen at Nuzzles and Company and the donated funds will be put in a reserve account that will be set aside for any rehabilitation or expenses that "Charlie" may have. Please note, that any expenses will be approved by Nuzzles and Company and any invoices will be paid directly to that Company. No money from this GoFundMe Campaign will go directly to the Owners of "Charlie". Should "Charlie" not require Nuzzles and Company to utilize this money for his rehabilitation, the donated funds will go toward future similar situations.
In addition, we received the following text from the Owners of "Charlie"...
To all you wonderful caring people, just wanted to give you an updated on Jericho aka Charlie. He is doing great! He is happy to be home. He is eating and drinking good, he's wagging his tail, and is so happy to be around his best buds Ollie and Gyzmo. He allows me to give him his meds hidden in peanut butter, which he really likes. Thanks again for all your love and kindness.
The Castro Family
He ate his food and water and is standing to pee on his own which the doctor said is really good.
Everytime he wants to walk, we just have to help him with the towel they told me to use.
I called the vet today and they said Thats hes doing really good just to let him do what he's comfortable with as long as hes not jumping, running or expressiveness.
I cannot begin to express my gratitude towards everyone who has helped my parents dog, Jeriko (Jerry). My parents are out of town in Georgia visiting my brother before he deploys again, (this is actually his dog) who is currently a Ranger with the Army. A friend was looking after their dogs, and notified me he was missing. As soon as I was contacted he was missing, I began looking for him to no avail, until I found the ad on KSL. My brother received Jerry about seven years ago and he has been our loved dog ever since. Jerry is always wearing his collared tag , and I am very upset to hear it was missing. I believe he may have snagged it off when jumping over the fence to get out. I have just left cottonwood hospital where I was able to see him and speak with the Veterinary Clinic. He was still very out of it, but was happy to see a familiar face and tried to get up to greet me. I have signed all necessary paperwork and Jerry's doctor is contacting me as soon as he is in tomorrow morning. I am speechless at all of your generosity and support for Jeriko. The hospital explained they have received so many calls wondering about Jeriko's current condition. My mother loves Jerry so much (she brushes his teeth every night) and spoke to him over the phone while I was at the clinic. I would like to thank each and every one of you from the deepest of my heart. I feel extremely stupid, for a lack of better words that Jerry had not been micro chipped yet, and missing his collar and I thank you so much for nothing but your kind words and generosity. Thank you so much Holly, and everyone in the video who stayed by Jerry's side. My mother and I would love to speak with you and I have messaged you my number. My parents are heading home as soon as possible to be with Jerry.
We are very happy Charlie / Jerry 's owners were found, our son and his girlfriend were with Holly when Jerry was hit that is my son holding Jerry and they have been concerned about Jerry since the accident happened. Please keep us all posted with Jerry's condition.
Natalia, Thank you so much for reaching out and posting. We live on Camp Pendleton Marine Base in CA, and I see often, how hard it is to face deployment and leave loved ones (and fur babies) behind. Please thank you brother for his service for us and thanks for letting us help your family during this time. Keep us posted on Jerry's recovery.
You, Sam and others involved in this incident, have totally handled it like compassionate professionals. I wish that Jerry knew how much effort you put into helping him. It is so uplifting to see what you and others have done. If it weren't for your courage and efforts, Jerry would have laid there and suffered. Bless you all!
I am really NOT trying to monopolize Charlie's gofundme thread - apologies for the appearance that I am. I just want to thank Holly, Sam, all the people at the animal hospital, and every single contributor to this gofundme campaign. My wife and I are thrilled that Charlie is getting such attention. Our own dog Kiona could be Charlie's twin, so seeing these photos of Charlie really hits home. One aside, regarding the inevitable speculation as to Charlie's breed and age, and my need to toss in my opinion: Our Kiona is identical in appearance to Charlie, right down to the faint brindle pattern, the white tuft on his chest, and the gray beard. Kiona is four years old. His father is a registered German Wirehair (Drotthaar) Pointer, and his mother is a beautiful gold-colored mutt with some Golden Labrador influence. Charlie might be something else entirely. The funny thing about dog genealogy is that many traits have remained in the genome despite the specifics of the breeds' appearances and behaviors. Purebred Labradors, to my experience (no credentials, to be clear!) are much broader in the chest and don't have such lanky legs. Those legs look like pointer-legs to me! Or maybe Dobermann Pinscher... ;) Get well Charlie, and let's all hope you go home soon!
I think everyone is so very special to be involved at whatever level you can. I am disheartened though to hear that this poor baby as to wait yet another 72 hrs after Monday to receive surgery. It's not fair to him to be in pain and discomfort this long because his owners can't be found.. I wish there was a way around this.
I suspect I'm not alone in wanting to know how Jerry is doing. Hopefully, he's out of his "prison" and enjoying being a dog again. If you have any further word on his progress, please post! Thanks.
Thank you again for the updates.
I am so very impressed with those that rescued Jerry and how they kept us updated on his health and the billing/ charges...they have let us know all the details. Thank you. You folks are incredible. Jerry was very lucky to have you run across his path at his time of need.
7/11 - Thanks for the update, both on Jerry himself, and on the finances. Let's hope the Castro family continues to give us all updates as Jerry progresses. We'd love to see photos of Jerry up running and playing again!
To the amazing people that helped him out and put this together I absolutely love you! You are a true example of what human kindness is and should be. To everyone that donated and shared this you are all just as amazing and thank you for loving this dog and not just saying "he's just a dog". With how much love this sweet dog has received makes my heart happy! I absolutely love how so many people came together to make such a wonderful thing happen!!!
Reply to Update 15 on 7/2/16: We're the family with Jerry's doppelganger: Can't imagine trying to keep Kiona inactive for 6 weeks. Hope it's not too traumatic for Jerry. (and his family...) Glad to see he's eating and standing. Hurrah!
So happy to hear that his owner was found and is in the military! My son in law is a Blackhawk helicopter in the Air Force deployed to Afghanistan right now! So glad to help a little and hope he has a complete recovery
It's been 2 days since we've heard how he is . Please update us, thank you
