In April, my 30th birthday was just around the corner. I had not celebrated myself in years, being unable to afford much of anything in one of the nation's most expensive cities and working of a social worker's salary, which provides me with all my needs, but not much extra. So I decided, what could be more fun than a weekend getaway with friends to Nashville?! We skimped, saved, planned, and anticipated this trip for months. I had never used Airbnb before, but I had seen plenty of successful visits from friends' social media posts, and we decided to take that route instead of hotels to save on costs.
On our second night at our Airbnb, the owner's dog bit my face, causing a large V shaped tear in my nose, the sides of which were completely open and separate from each other. Bleeding all over the place, we quickly went to the ER, where I spent over 8 hours waiting, and ended up with seven stitches and thousands of dollars in hospital bills. The man who owns the dog is refusing to give me his insurance information, Airbnb denies liability, and despite having reached out to four attorneys, no one is willing to accept my case. While my skin is healing remarkably well thanks to good doctors, this money issue hasn't faded with time. I don't know what to do, I'm scared of what will happen if this is taken to collections, I have no money for these bills, and need to take care of it right away. It would be the weight of the world taken off my shoulders to have my community help me, and every donation is beyond appreciated. I'm totally embarassed to be asking for assistance, but nothing could mean more than feeling free from this. I know that there are a million more deserving funds, and people who are much more hard off than I, but if you can, please help me shake this monkey off my back.
