Jenny's Fight Against Cancer

To everyone we love - As we all know, 2019 has been nothing but the best year of Jenny’s life. With wedding planning, snowboarding trips, Bachelorette in Vegas, getting accepted to the nursing program to of course the most perfect, beautiful wedding in April, this year has been nothing but a dream for Mr. & Mrs. Tim & Jennifer Gutierrez.



The dream took an unfortunate more recent turn when she received a dreaded phone call just days after the 3rd anniversary of her brother Tommy’s passing. The doctor let her know after getting the lump in her neck checked out, and under going a CT scan, they found other swollen lymph notes in her chest meaning it has spread and that Jenny has been diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer. This is all parts shocking, frustrating and unpredictable but as we all know, Jenny is a fighter and there is not a doubt in her or any of our minds that this will just be a trial at the present time and nothing but a sweet victory sooner than later.



That being said, now is the time to prepare more than ever. Her doctors first told her it would be unimaginable to beat this without both chemo and radiation but changed their minds recently with the current tests showing the cancer has not spread to her abdomen and below

(THANK GOD!)


We will hold off on the radiation for now. She is going to do 6 months of chemotherapy, which is 12 treatments (2 rounds a month). Because of how hard Jen has worked to get into the nursing program, she refuses to feel in any way defeated because of the cards she was dealt. She will still do everything in her power to finish the program on time. She is now going to use this time as a learning experience for when she is a nurse for people going through the same thing as she once did. Later this will be nothing but a blessing in disguise.




Jenny is 28 years old in near perfect health before this. In the last month she has changed her diet completely in order to give it her best shot to turn everything around! She is now a pescatarian, juicing everyday and no more alcohol. One of her first questions to the doctor was if she could still go to the gym during all of this. She is determined to kick ass!!!!



Jenny, Tim and Luke (12), are the best little family but do have hopes of growing in the future. Jenny is currently going through the process of freezing her eggs and will start chemo immediately after in the 2nd week of December. The fertilization process comes out to around $11,000 out of pocket because insurance does not cover that fully.



She is also a server while going through school and as Jen has hopes of working as much as possible, we know there are going to be times when she is not going to be able to. We are asking for help during this time to prepare as much as possible so she is not struggling in other areas while fighting this full on and can take time off if need be. She will be having to do multiple bone marrow biopsies, PET scans, echo exams, pulmonary exams, and chemo throughout this year along with losing all of her hair and energy. The last thing she should be stressed about this year is bills and how to pay for them.

I’ve known Jen damn near my whole life and always wondered why God made her so stubborn. THIS IS WHY! She is the best fighter I know and is going to make this look easy for the rest. We will get through this together, all of us. We are so blessed to be surrounded by all of you who love and care for her and Tim.
